Packing for the Caribbean

Ohhhh the Caribbean with its sandy beaches, azure waters... and it's fantastic SCUBA diving!

The only time we pack so much we require checking our bags in is when we go to the Caribbean because of our diving gear - there's no way of stuffing all that into a carry on bag!!

Since our top priority is diving, our daily routine while on vacation is very simple: wake up around 7:30 AM, be at the dive center at 8:30 AM, come back to the dive center around 2 PM, make it to the hotel around 3 PM, have something to eat and then go out again to enjoy the beach, snorkel or explore. We will be exhausted by 8 PM, with enough energy left for a light dinner and a shower, and we'll hit the bed by 10 PM the latest.

We rarely go out or eat/drink in excess during these trips because we want to be fresh and fit to be able to enjoy the diving - it's no fun to dive with a hangover!

So, we don't need to worry about packing dressy stuff! A couple of casual outfits (mostly for the airport!) is all we need. The rest of the luggage is composed of bathing suits and beach dresses and beach towels and all the other parafernalia related to aquatic activities: flip flops, sun protector, sunglasses, which does not occupy much space at all. 90% of the space is devoted to diving gear: Mask, snorkel, fins, BCD, regulator, wetsuit, and dive computer.

A must-take for these trips is our trusty travel coffeemaker, as well as some ground coffee - the kind we like is very hard to find out of Miami, FL.
